Names in Ranma 1/2

This table lists the names which appear in the manga Ranma 1/2, providing the original Japanese forms of the names in kanji (if there is a kanji form) and in hiragana or katakana as appropriate. I also attempt to provide a meaning for some of the names, but that should be taken with a pile of salt.

Naturally, you're only going to be able to see this correctly if you're set up to display Japanese characters in your browser.

I have tried to include information on how the main characters usually address one another, including honorifics. Feel free to ask about any cases which are not included, but please point to at least one location in the manga where the one character directly addresses the other by name (or nickname).

Akane		あかね	akane	“akane” means madder, a plant from which a red dye is made. Instead of using normal honorifics, the principal often addresses her as “ミスあかね” which means “Miss Akane.”
Akane	Akane is addressed simply as “Akane” without an honorific by Ranma, by her family and for some reason, by Shinnosuke. She is addressed as Akane-kun by Genma and Tatewaki Kuno, as Akane-chan by Ukyo, Happosai and Nodoka, as Akane-san by Ryoga and Akari, and Akane-sama by Konatsu. The principal calls her Miss Akane, using the Japanese pronunciation of the English word “Miss.”

Aloha Virus	アロハ病原体	アロハびょうげんたい	aroha byōgentai	The disease to which the boys succumbed in the chapter where the students were marooned on a deserted island.
April		エイプリル	eipuriru	The puppet butler owned by Kinnosuke Kasha-ō.
Armadillo		アルマジロ	arumajiro	The name of the Kuno family's dog (as seen in the chapter “Sibling Warfare”). Tatewaki refers to him as Armadillo-kun.
Armie	道ちゃん	どうちゃん	dōchan	The enchanted armor which chose Akane as its wearer. The name she calls it in Japanese is Dochan, a nickname formed from the word dogi for a martial arts uniform.
Asuka (See Saginomiya)
Atami	熱海	あたみ	atami	A resort to which Ryoga took Ukyo after winning the hot springs obstacle course race.
aunt		おばさまおばさん	obasama obasan	How the Tendo sisters address Nodoka. Actually, all three seem to use obasama, as does Ranma in his female guise of Ranko.
Awesome Taro	かっこいい太郎	かっこいいたろう	kakkoī tarō	The name means “handsome boy.”
Bayankala		バヤンカラ	bayankara	The mountain range containing Jusenkyo valley.
Beatrice		ベアトリーチェ	beatorīche	The name of the hermit crab which detached Akane's name from the bamboo in the Tanabata arc.
Bess		ベス	besu	A dog owned by the Yamada family, one of the Tendo's neighbors.
Betty		ベティちゃん	betichan	Tofu's skeleton.
Black Rose	黒バラ	くろバラ	kuro bara	“kuro” means black and “bara” means rose. This is Kodachi's nickname for herself.
Blue Thunder	蒼い雷	あおいいかづち	aoi ikazuchi	“aoi” means blue and “ikazuchi” means thunder. Kuno's nickname for himself.
Body of Ice	氷の体	こおりのからだ	kōri no karada	The second part of the technique behind the hiryū shōten ha, after the Soul of Ice. See also “Heaven Blast of the Dragon” and “Soul of Ice.”
Breaking Point	爆砕点穴	ばくさいてんけつ	bakusai tenketsu	A martial arts technique which Cologne taught to Ryoga, which allows him to shatter rock merely by touching it.
brother (older)		おにいさまにいさんおにいちゃんにいちゃん	onīsama nīsan onīchan nīchan	Both onīsama and nīsan are used by Kuno Kodachi in reference to her brother Tatewaki. Onīchan is used by Ranma in reference to Ryoga when pretending to be his younger sister. Both onīchan and nīchan are used by Hanako to address her brother (the two children who thought Happosai was Santa).
carp body flip	鯉漁翻身	りぎょほんしん	ri gyo hon shin	One of the moves of the umisen-ken. The kanji represent carp fishing flip person.
Carp on a Cutting Board	俎上の鯉	そじょうのこい	sojō no koi	This is another description of the Saotome School Stance of Submission, a pose adopted by Genma after he was defeated by Ranma.
Cat Temple	寺猫	でらねこ	deraneko	The temple (in district five) where the ghost cat Mao Mo Lin imprisoned Shampoo. I've given the kanji the way it appears on the sign on the building. Shampoo's dialog and the narration box reverse the kanji characters, saying 猫寺.
Charlotte		シャルロットしゃるろっと	sharurotto	The name Azusa gives to Ryoga's pig form. The first form in katakana is for when the name is spoken. The second form in hiragana is what appears on the collar.

Chestnuts Roasting on Open Fire Technique	火中天津甘栗拳	かちゅうてんしんあまぐりけんフオチョンテイエンチンカンリイチュアン	kachū tenshin amaguri ken fuochon teienchin kanrī chuan	The speed training technique Cologne shows Ranma to help him try to win the Phoenix Pill from her. It looks to me as if the name translates to “The sweet chestnuts in the divine fire technique.” The Chinese pronunciation (fuochon ...) is what Shampoo calls it. Cologne and the others use the Japanese pronunciation (kachū ...).

cloth of falling stars	護身流星布	ごしんりゅうせいふ	goshin ryūsei fu	One of the moves of the umisen-ken. The kanji represent self-protection meteor cloth.
Cockroach Goro	ゴキブリ五郎	ゴキブリごろう	gokiburi gorō	Goro is a name for a Fifth-Born Son. This was an alternate name Happosai proposed for Pantyhose Taro.
Cologne	可崘	コロン	koron	The kanji characters are not always used.
Cologne	Addressed as hībāsan (great-grandmother) by Shampoo, as obāsan by Akane, and usually by the rather rude babā by Ranma.
Cowbert	牛子	うしこ	ushiko	The name of the female character on the television show Akane is watching during the kairaishi mushroom arc. 牛 means “cow” and 子 means “child” (a common ending for female names).
cousin (younger female)	従妹	いとこ	itoko	A female cousin who is younger. Used by Ranma when describing himself to Nodoka as Ranko, Akane's cousin. This suggests the possibility that Ranma is younger than Akane, or perhaps he merely wished to present himself that way.
Cradle from Hell	地獄のゆりかご	じごくのゆりかご	jigoku no yurikago	Attack used by Genma on Ranma after Ranma had grown stronger than his father.
Crossdresser	オカマ野郎	オカマやろう	okama yarō	This is what Pantyhose Taro calls Ranma. Crossdresser is not a very accurate translation. “yarō” means rascal, and “okama” is a derogatory term for a man who is a transvestite or at least very effeminate, or can also be used for a male homosexual.
Crouch of the Wild Tiger	猛虎落地勢	もうこらくちせい	mōko rakuchi sei	A technique of the Saotome school which is used for apologizing. The kanji are for “fierce tiger,” “falling to the ground” and “energy / military strength.”
crushing embrace of the killer grip	懐中抱珠殺	かいちゅうほうじゅうさつ	kaichū hō jū satsu	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent one's-pocket embrace jewel kill.
Cupid		キューピッド	kyūpiddo	Ranma and Shampoo disguised themselves as “The Cupid sisters of love” when trying to get the waterproof soap back from Ryoga. See also Kew and Pid.
customer	お客さん	おきゃくさん	okyakusan	How the Jusenkyo guide refers to visitors. “kyaku” means customer.
daddy		ダデイ	dadei	This is how Tatewaki Kuno refers to his father, the principal. Although on at least one occasion when Tatewaki says this, it is accompanied by the kanji 校長 for “principal.”
Daimonji Sentaro	大文字煎太郎	だいもんじせんたろう	daimonji sentarō	Heir to the Daimonji School of Martial Arts Tea Ceremony. He kidnapped Ranma in an attempt to marry him, believing Ranma to be a girl. The word “daimonji” refers to uppercase or large characters, or even just the kanji character 大 (dai - big) itself. As for “sentarō,” the “sen” probably means “boil” and the “tarō” is a common suffix for a first son.
deadly snake pit probing palm	毒蛇探穴掌	どくじゃたんけつしょう	dokuja tan ketsu shō	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent poisonous-snake grope pressure-point palm.
deep sea demon wrap	夜叉探海包	やしゃたんかいほう	yasha tan kai hō	One of the moves of the umisen-ken. The kanji represent Buddhist-guardian-deities grope sea wrap.
demon god multiple strike	鬼神来襲弾	きじんらいしゅうだん	kijin raishū dan	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent fierce-god attack bullet.
Densuke	でん助	でんすけ	densuke	The boy who is hospitalized, and whom Ranma must convince to take his medicine.
Densuke	He is called Densuke-chan by his mother, and Densuke-kun by Ranma. Densuke calls his mother okāsama, and Ranma addresses the boy's mother as obasan.
doctor/teacher	先生	せんせい	sensei	Used alone or as an honorific when addressing teachers, the principal or Doctor Tofu.
Dragon's Descending Crashing Wave	飛竜降臨弾	ひりゅうこうりんだん	hiryū kōrin dan	A revised version of the Hiryu Shoten Ha, which Ranma used to defeat Prince Herb of the Musk. The kanji are for “flying dragon,” “descent” and “bullet.”
dragon's whisker	竜の髭	りゅうのひげ	ryū no hige	The secret ingredient of a porridge to cure baldness, which made Ranma's hair grow uncontrollably, but which could also be used as a seal to control that growth.
fanged fingers of steel welcome gate	迎門鉄扇指	げいもんてつせんし	gei mon tetsusen shi	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent welcome gate iron-ribbed-fan fingers.
father		おとうさん	otōsan	Used in particular by Kasumi, Nabiki and Akane when addressing Soun.
father	父	ちち	chichi	Used by Ryoga's father when signing his note. He wrote “父より” which I think means something like “from dad.”
feline-fu	猛虎一撃態	もうこいちげきたい	mōko ichigeki tai	This is the second Saotome Desperation Strike from the Scroll of Secret Blows, which Ranma used in an attempt to remove the Mark of the Battling God from Ryoga. VIZ translated it as feline-fu, but it looks to me more like “The fierce tiger blow figure.”
fierce tiger gate open blast	猛虎開門破	もうこかいもんは	mōko kaimon ha	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent fierce-tiger opening-gate rend.
flat-frog-fu	蛙轢死態	かえるれきしたい	kaeru rekishi tai	This is the ultimate Saotome Desperation Strike from the Scroll of Secret Blows, which Ranma used in an attempt to remove the Mark of the Battling God from Ryoga. VIZ translated it as flat-frog-fu, which seems pretty close, as the kanji seems to translate to me as “frog death from being run over figure.”
flight of the tight bind golden threads	金絲緊縛翔	きんしきんばくしょう	kin shi kinbaku shō	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent gold thread bind-tightly fly.
flying ice dragon	飛竜氷突破	ひりゅうひょうとっぱ	hiryū hyō toppa	The revised form of the hiryū shōten ha which Ranma uses as his final attack against Saffron. The kanji are for “flying dragon,” “ice” and “penetration.”
fox-fu	狼牙襲背態	ろうがしゅうはいたい	rō ga shū hai tai	This is the first Saotome Desperation Strike from the Scroll of Secret Blows, which Ranma used in an attempt to remove the Mark of the Battling God from Ryoga. VIZ translated it as fox-fu, but it looks to me more like “The wolf fang attack from behind figure.”
France		フランス	furansu	The country from which the Chardin family hails.
Françoise		フランソワーズ	furansowāzu	The name given by Azusa to the fish cake with which Ranma struck Mikado.
Fua Fua	珐珐	フアーフア	fuāfua	One of the girls Pantyhose Taro rescued in China. In Chinese, 珐 represents enamelware.
Fugu	河豚男クン	ふぐおクン	fuguokun	The male half of a couple who came to the temple to make a wish for success together using one of the horse prayer tablets. The name means “puffer fish man.”
Full-Body Cat Tongue	総身猫舌	そうしんねこじた	sōshinnekojita	Technique used on Ranma by Cologne so that he couldn't use hot water to change back to a male.
Furinkan	風林館	ふうりんかん	fūrinkan	The high school. The name could be interpreted as “windy forest hall.”
Gambling King	博奕王K	ばくちおうキング	bakuchi ō kingu	What's weird about this is that 王 means “king,” but a Roman ‘K’ is also included with furigana indicating that the K is pronounced “kingu” — i.e., king. Thus, to me, it looks like Gambling King King.
Gekkaja	月渦蛇	げっかじゃ	gekkaja	The key which controls the cold water flow from the dragon faucet, and also the weapon used by Ranma in his fight against Saffron. The kanji represent moon, vortex and snake.
Genma	玄馬	げんま	genma	“genma” means mysterious (or occult) horse.
Genma	Genma is usually called either oyaji or kuso oyaji (when angry) by Ranma. He is addressed as ojisama by Kasumi and Akane, ojisan by Nabiki, and Saotome-kun by Soun. His wife addresses him as anata, and speaks of him to others as shujin. During the moxibustion arc, Ukyo calls him Occhan.
Golden Pair	黄金ペア	おうごんペア	ōgon pea	The name of the ice skating team from Kolkhoz High School, Shiratori Azusa and Sanzenin Mikado.
Gosunkugi Hikaru	五寸釘光	ごすんくぎひかる	gosunkugi hikaru	“gosunkugi” means spike, and “hikaru” means light.
grandfather		おじいさんおじいさま	ojīsan ojīsama	This form of address can be used for any much older man. Kasumi and Akane address Happosai as ojīsan. I wonder if one may read anything into the fact they use “san” instead of “sama” (they use ojisama when addressing Genma). The form ojīsama is used by Harumaki's grandson when referring to his grandfather.
grandmother		おばあさま	obāsama	How Sentaro Daimonji addresses his grandmother.
great-grandmother		ひいばあちゃん	hībāchan	This is how Shampoo refers to Cologne.
Gyoko	餃子	ぎょうこ	gyōko	This is the name of the girl the old man loved in the chapter “The Plum and the Prune.” These two kanji characters are normally pronounced gyoza, a type of dumpling. The man referred to the girl as Gyoko-san.
Hammer Girl		ハンマー・ガール	hanmā-gāru	A nickname used for Akane in the arc where the principal attempted to teach her to swim. “kanazuchi” means “hammer” but is also used to refer to a hopeless swimmer.
Hammer Girl		カナヅチ	kanazuchi
Hanachiyo	花千代	はなちよ	hanachiyo	The name might mean something like “flower forever.” This is the cat Kasumi is taking care of for a friend, which reveals Ranma's phobia.
Hanako	花子	はなこ	hanako	The younger of the two children who thought that Happosai was Santa Claus.
Happosai	八宝斉	はっぽうさい	happōsai	The name is based on a popular Chinese dish, replacing the final kanji character by another with the same pronunciation.
Happosai	Addressed as ojīsan by Akane, and usually as the rude jijī by Ranma.
Happo change return	八宝つり銭返し	はっぽうつりせんがえし	happō tsurisen gaeshi	The attack used by Hinako Ninomiya which returns a blast of the ki her body had absorbed.
Happo fire burst	八宝大華輪	はっぽうだいかりん	happō daikarin	A technique used by Happosai based on fireworks/bombs.
Happo five yen attack	八宝五円殺	はっぽうごえんさつ	happō go en satsu	This is the primary technique used by Hinako Ninomiya, which drains a person's fighting aura.
Happo fifty yen attack	八宝五十円殺	はっぽうごじゅうえんさつ	happō gojū en satsu	This is an alternate technique used by Hinako Ninomiya, which can drain a person's fighting aura even when they are not attacking her.
Happy		ハッピー	happī	A nickname for Happosai given to him by his friend Rakkyosai.
Harumaki	春巻	はるまき	harumaki	This is the name of the dying old man in the chapter “The Plum and the Prune.” The name refers to a spring roll. The girl he loved referred to him as Harumaki-san.
Hawaii		ハワイ	hawai	A place the principal spent several years and to which he often refers.

Heartburn Rokuro	胸やけ六郎	むねやけろくろう	muneyake rokurō	Rokuro is a name for a Sixth-Born Son. This was an alternate name Happosai proposed for Pantyhose Taro.
Heaven Blast of the Dragon	飛竜昇天破	ひりゅうしょうてんは	hiryū shōten ha	The technique for leading your opponent in a spiral while he gives off hot chi, then blast cold chi upward at the center to create a whirlwind into which he is sucked. Ranma used this to defeat Happosai in attempting to get the moxibustion chart, and later used modified versions against other opponents. The kanji are for “flying dragon,” “death / ascension” and “rip / tear / destroy.” See also “Body of Ice” and “Soul of Ice.”
Hentai Girl	変態女	へんたいおんな	hentai onna	A nickname Tatewaki Kuno uses for his sister Kodachi, which VIZ translated as “Twisted Sister.”
Herb	哈峬	ハーブ	hābu	Herb, or Prince Herb, is the leader of the group which visited from the Musk Dynasty. His name is usually given simply with the katakana.
Herb	His subjects Lime and Mint address him as Herb-sama.
Hibiki Ryoga	響良牙	ひびきりょうが	hibiki ryōga	“hibiki” means echo or sound, and “ryōga” means good fang.
Hibiki Ryoga	Addressed as Ryoga without an honorific by Ranma, Mousse and Ukyo. Akane calls him Ryoga-kun, and Akari addresses him as Ryoga-sama.
Hida Mountains	飛驒山中	ひださんちゅう	hida sanchū	Where Happosai was imprisoned in a cave.
Higo Forest	飛御の森	ひごのもり	higo no mori	This is the forest where Shinnosuke and his grandfather live, which contains gigantic animals. It seems like the name might be a pun on “false report.”

Hiroshima	広島	ひろしま	hiroshima	A place for Ryoga to be lost.
Hokkaido	北海道	ほっかいどう	hokkaidō	A place where Ryoga thinks he is prior to the Shishi Hokodan arc. (He's really in Nagasaki.)
Ho'o Peak	鳳凰山	ほうおうさん	hōōsan	The mountain where the phoenix people live. The word hōō is a mythical firebird goddess, translated as phoenix.
Horsebert	馬吉	うまきち	umakichi	The name of the male character on the television show Akane is watching during the kairaishi mushroom arc. 馬 means “horse” and 吉 means “luck.” The female character addresses him as umakichi-san.
Howl of the Demon Dog	魔犬慟哭跛	まけんどうこくは	maken dōkoku ha	A technique of the Saotome Ryu which Genma tries to teach Ranma in response to the Shishi Hokodan. It seems to me to translate to “Wailing of the Crippled Demon Dog.”
husband	主人	あなたしゅじん	anata shujin	Used, for example, in regard to Genma as Nodoka's husband. Nodoka uses anata when addressing him directly, and shujin when speaking of him to others.
Japan	日本	にっぽん	nippon
Joketsuzoku	女傑族	じょけつぞくニュウチエズウ	joketsuzoku nyūchiezū	The name means something like “tribe of brave women.” The pronunciation nyūchiezū is presumably Chinese since that is how the Jusenkyo guide refers to them.
Joketsuzoku Sutra	女傑族経	じょけつぞくきょう	joketsuzoku kyō	VIZ translated this as “The Laws of the Amazons.” It's the title of the book Shampoo had with her, which she showed after kissing male Ranma.
Juliet		ジュリエット	jurietto	Title character in the play Romeo and Juliet.
Jusendo	呪泉洞	じゅせんどう	jusendō	The mountain and water source of the Jusenkyo springs. The name means something like “cave of the cursed springs.”
Jusenkyo	呪泉郷	じゅせんきょうチョウチュアンツアン	jusenkyō chōchuanshian	Means something like “land of the cursed springs.” The second version is the name in Chinese, as used by the guide.
kairaishi (mushrooms)	傀儡芝	かいらいし	kairaishi	The name seems to mean “puppet mushroom.” This was the mushroom which caused Ranma to hug people whenever someone sneezed, and caused Akane to hug at the sound of a gong.
Kasha-ō Kinnosuke	火車王金之介	かしゃおうきんのすけ	kashaō kinnosuke	The so-called King of Poverty who challenged Nabiki. The kanji which make up Kinnosuke mean gold, of, mediate. The kasha is a mythical beast which devours dead bodies, and ō means king.
Kasumi		かすみ	kasumi	“kasumi” means mist, haze.
Kasumi	Addressed as either onēchan or Kasumi onēchan by Akane and Nabiki, and simply as Kasumi by her father. Ranma calls her either onēsan or Kasumi-san, Tofu addresses her as Kasumi-san, and older people in the neighborhood who recognize her call her Kasumi-chan.
Katsunishiki	カツ錦	カツにしき	katsunishiki	The name of Akari Unryu's sumo wrestling pig, on which she rides. Katsu means “cutlet” and nishiki means “fine clothing.”
Kew		キューちゃん	kyūchan	The name Ranma used when he and Shampoo were trying to get the waterproof soap back from Ryoga. See also Cupid and Pid.
Kima	紀瑪	キーマ	kīma	Captain of the phoenix warriors from Ho'o Peak. The kanji represent chronicle and agate or onyx.
Kima	The other warriors of the phoenix people call her Kima-sama. Everyone else just says Kima without an honorific.
Kimen school of martial arts calligraphy	喜面流拳印術	きめんりゅうけんいんじゅつ	kimen ryū ken'injutsu	The martial arts school of the old man who drew the Mark of the Battling God on Ryoga's stomach.
Kinjakan	金蛇環	きんじゃかん	kinjakan	Saffron's weapon, and the key which controls the hot water flow from the phoenix faucet. The kanji represent gold, snake and ring, and it is referred to at one point in the VIZ translation as the “ring of the golden snake.”
Kiss of Death	死の接吻	しのせっぷん	shi no seppun	“Kiss of Death” is a pretty literal translation.
Kodachi	小太刀	こだち	kodachi	A “kodachi” is a short Japanese sword.
Kodachi	Ranma generally just says Kodachi, and her brother Tatewaki calls her either imōto or hentai girl. Her rival Asuka Saginomiya (the White Lily) called her Kodachi-sama, and she used Asuka-sama in return.
Koeda	小枝	こえだ	koeda	The thinner of Konatsu's two step-sisters. The name means “twig.”
Kolkhoz		コルホーズ	koruhōzu	The high school attended by the Golden Pair ice skating team. “koruhōzu” means a collective farm.
Kome	小梅	こうめ	kōme	The larger of Konatsu's two step-sisters. The name means “little plum.”
Konatsu	小夏	こなつ	konatsu	The boy who was brought up as a kunoichi, believing he was female, and who fell in love with Ukyo. The name means “little summer”.
Konatsu	Akane addresses him as Konatsu-san. He is simply called Konatsu without an honorific by Ranma, Ukyo and his stepfamily.
Konjo Mariko	今条マリ子	こんじょうマリこ	konjō mariko	The martial arts cheerleader from Seisyun High School. Her family name Konjo seems to mean something like current provision or paragraph. Her given name may be nothing more than the Japanese equivalent of Mary.
Koruma	柯爾瑪	コルマ	koruma	The darker skinned warrior of the phoenix people who accompanied Kima to Japan.
Kote / Kotetsu	小鉄	こてつ	kotetsu	The mother of Konatsu's step family. Her name means “little iron.”
Kumahachi	熊八	くまはち	kumahachi	The name by which Yotaro (the boy who wouldn't go outside) referred to Genma in his panda form. The name seems to mean “eight bear.”
Kumon Ryu	公紋竜	くもんりゅう	kumon ryū	A boy who pretended to be Ranma for a time, master of the yamasen-ken. Ryū means dragon, and the kanji for Kumon represent prince and family crest.
Kuno	九能	くのう	kunō	“kunō” means nine skills.
Kuonji Ukyo	久遠寺右京	くおんじうきょう	kuonji ukyō	“kuonji” means eternity temple. “ukyō” is one of the seven wards which make up the city of Kyoto.
Kuonji Ukyo	Addressed as Ucchan by Ranma, as Ukyo without an honorific by Akane, and as Ukyo-sama by Konatsu.
Kurenai Tsubasa	紅つばさ	くれないつばさ	kurenai tsubasa	“kurenai” means crimson or deep red, and “tsubasa” means wings.
Kyoto	京都	きょうと	kyōto	A place for Ryoga to be lost.
La Belle France School of Martial Arts	おフランス流格闘	おフランスりゅうかくとう	ofuransu ryū kakutō	I might have translated this as “French School of Grappling.” This is the martial arts school practiced by the Chardin family.
Le Petit Bouche	小さな口	プチ・ブーシュちいさなくち	puchi・būshu chīsana kuchi	The first is the French pronunciation, the second Japanese. Either way it means “little mouth.” The same kanji form is used for both; the only way to distinguish which pronunciation is being used is by the furigana characters. This was a Chardin ancestor who achieved success without a large mouth.
Lime	来睦	ライム	raimu	The name of the tiger-ish companion to Prince Herb of the Musk. I'm not sure what meaning, if any, is associated with the kanji.
Lime	Mint calls him Lime-san, while Lime just says Mint without an honorific.
Link	琳珂	リンク	rinku	One of two sisters (her twin is Pink) from the village of Yakusai in China. She is skilled with medicinal plants, and with her sister is an enemy of Shampoo. Both kanji characters in her name mean “jewel.” Link wears a light top with the kanji 藥 printed on it in a dark color, which means “medicine.”
Long-John Saburo	サルマタ三郎	サルマタさぶろう	sarumata saburō	Literally “Undershorts Third-Born Son.” An alternate name Happosai proposed for Pantyhose Taro.
Lucky		ラッキー	rakkī	A nickname for Happosai's friend Rakkyosai.

Mantenmaru	満点丸	まんてんまる	mantenmaru	The boar whose picture replaced that of the horse Shussemaru on the prayer tablets. The name means “perfect score perfection.”

Miss Alligator	鰐子さん	わにこさん	wanikosan	A girl whose boyfriend was waiting for her outside the bathhouse in the Cursed Cave of Broken Loves. The name means “alligator girl” (or crocodile).
Miss Boar	猪子さん	いのこさん	inokosan	The female half of one of the couples at the Tanabata fair. Her name means “young wild boar.”
Miss Crane	鶴子さん	つるこさん	tsurukosan	The real girlfriend of the boy Asuka Saginomiya (the White Lily) abducted and claimed as her boyfriend.
Miss Monkey	猿子さん	さるこさん	sarukosan	The female half of the couple who entered the Cursed Cave of Broken Loves ahead of Ranma, Akane, Ukyo and Ryoga. The boy was named Mr. Horsie. The name means “monkey girl.”
Miss Snake	蛇子さん	へびこさん	hebikosan	The female half of another couple whom Ukyo and Ryoga observed in the Cursed Cave of Broken Loves. The boy was named Mr. Hippo. The name means “snake girl.”
Miss Vega	織姫さん	おりひめさん	orihimesan	This is the name of the star Vega, who is the female in the myth on which Tanabata is based. The name means “weaver princess.”
Miss Yellowtail	鰤子さん	ぶりこさん	burikosan	The female half of one of the couples at the Tanabata fair. Her name does mean yellowtail, together with the normal female name suffix.
Miyakoji Satsuki	都大路茶月	みやこおおじさつき	miyakoōji satsuki	Fiancée and later wife of Sentaro Daimonji. “miyakoōji” is the main street of a capital. “satsuki” seems to mean something like “moon tea.”
Moko Takabisha	猛虎高飛車	もうこたかびしゃ	mōko takabisha	Ranma's chi blast attack, which appears to translate roughly as “fierce tiger domineering.” VIZ translated it as “pride of the fierce tiger.”

moxibustion	お灸	おきゅう	okyū	This is the word used when Happosai uses the ultimate weakness moxibustion to make Ranma as weak as a baby. The kanji character 灸 by itself means moxibustion, so the initial お is presumably there to make it a bit grander. The full phrase “ultimate weakness moxibustion” is written as 貧力虚脱灸 or ひんりききょだつきゅう (hin riki kyōdatsu kyū). The first kanji character in this phrase (貧 - hin) which means “poverty” is the character which Happosai burned onto Ranma's back.

Ranma	Ranma is addressed simply as “Ranma” without an honorific by Akane, Genma, Ryoga and Mousse, and also by Nodoka after she finally meets him as a male. Reversal Jewel	反転宝珠	はんてんほうじゅ	hanten hōju	The jewel worn by Shampoo and Akane which either reverses feelings of love to hate, or makes the feelings of love flow abundantly, depending on which direction it is worn. The name seems to translate to “reversal wishing stone.”

Roots of Health	薬菜館	やくさいかん	yakusaikan	The name of the restaurant which made the dragon's whisker porridge. The translation seems to be along the lines of “The Medicine Side Dish Building.”
Rouge	蕗珠	ルージュ	rūju	A Chinese girl who fell in the spring of drowned asura. An opponent of Pantyhose Taro. The first kanji in her name is for a plant known as the butterbur or bog rhubarb, and the second kanji represents pearl or gem.
Rouge	Akane addresses her as Rouge-san. Ranma, Soun and Pantyhose all call her Rouge without an honorific.
Ryoga (see Hibiki)
Ryoko (China - actor)	旅行	りょこう	ryokō	This is the name of the actor, as pronounced by Soun Tendo, in the Romeo and Juliet arc; the one who goes by the nickname “China.” The name means “travel” and in Chinese is given by the Unihan database as Lu Xing. VIZ translated his name as Xian Li.
Ryu Kumon (see Kumon)
Ryugenzawa	流幻沢	りゅうげんざわ	ryūgenzawa	This is the name of the body of water in which the Orochi lives, within the Higo Forest. The name means something like “groundless rumor of an illusionary swamp.”
Saffron	薩夫郎	サフラン	safuran	The immortal prince of the phoenix people, ruler of Mount Ho'o. The kanji represent Buddha, man and son.
Saffron	He is addressed as Saffron-sama by all of the phoenix people. The others just say Saffron without an honorific.
Saginomiya Asuka	鷺ノ宮飛鳥	さぎノみやあすか	saginomiya asuka	A rival of Kodachi Kuno, nicknamed the White Lily. The name Saginomiya means “heron princess.” Asuka was one of the imperial capitals of Japan during a time known as the Asuka period. The kanji for Asuka also refer to a flying bird, although the pronunciation is different for that meaning.
Sainokawahara (girls' dormitory)	賽の河原	さいのかわら	sai no kawara	The abandoned building from which Happosai had to stead the phantom lingerie. “Sai no Kawara” is a children's limbo in Japanese Buddhist mythology, a riverbed in the netherworld where the souls of departed children do penance. “Kawahara” is a less preferred pronunciation for 河原, which refers to a dry riverbed or river beach.
Saint Hebereke	聖ヘベレケ	セントヘベレケ	sento hebereke	The school which Kodachi attends. VIZ translated this as St. Bacchus. The word “hebereke” refers to drunkenness.
Sanae	茶忍	さなえ	sanae	The name of Satsuki Miyakoji's monkey. I'm guessing that the kanji 茶 for tea is simply shared with Satsuki's name, and that the kanji 忍 for fern is used because of its connection to words concerning stealth or concealment.

Sanzenin Mikado	三千院帝	さんぜんいんみかど	sanzenin mikado	“sanzenin” seems to mean something like “many schools”? “mikado” means sovereign, emperor or god. This is the name of the male half of the Golden Pair ice skating team.
Saotome	早乙女	さおとめ	saotome	“saotome” means young girl, or young female rice planter.
Saotome Desperation Strike	早乙女流裏技秘奥義	さおとめりゅううらわざひおうぎ	saotome ryū urawaza hiō gi	The attacks from the Scroll of Secret Blows are referred to as the Saotome Desperation Strikes. See also fox-fu, feline-fu, flat-frog-fu.
Saotome School Stance of Submission	早乙女流従順のポーズ	さおとめりゅうじゅうじゅんのポーズ	saotome ryū jūjun no pōzu	The “carp on a cutting board” pose adopted by Genma after his defeat at Ranma's hands. The word translated as “stance” is the loanword “pōzu” from the English “pose.”
Scroll of Secret Blows	秘伝書	ひでんしょ	hidensho	The translation of these words is “secret scroll.” This is a scroll Ranma dug out of his father's pack in an attempt to find some technique which would allow him to hit Ryoga, to remove the Mark of the Battling God. The full sentence Ranma used in referring to it is “この秘伝書さえあればっ” which looks to me to be saying something like “If only I use this secret scroll!”
Seisyun	青春	せいしゅん	seishun	Seisyun High School is the school attended by the martial arts cheerleader Mariko Konjo. The name means “youth” or “adolescent.” It might be noted that “Seisyun” is indeed the spelling used on their uniforms and in their cheers.

shark-fist	鮫拳	さめけん	sameken	A technique Cologne used against Ranma when battling at the ocean.
Shinnosuke	真之介	しんのすけ	shinnosuke	The name of the boy who lives in Higo Forest, who saved Akane when she was a young girl, and who has a terrible memory.
Shinnosuke	Addressed as Shinnosuke without an honorific by both his grandfather and Ranma. Akane calls him Shinnosuke-kun.
Shiratori Azusa	白鳥あずさ	しらとりあずさ	shiratori azusa	“shiratori” means swan, and “azusa” is the Japanese cherry birch. This is the name of the female half of the Golden Pair ice skating team.
Shirokuro		シロクロ	shirokuro	The name of Ryoga Hibiki's dog, translated by VIZ as “Checkers.” The name means “black and white.”
Shishi Hokodan	獅子咆哮弾	ししほうこうだん	shishi hōkō dan	The chi blast technique used by Ryoga, which is fueled by depression and despair. The name means something like “The Lion's Roar Shot.” Curiously, the final kanji 弾 has a couple of different meanings according to the dictionary I consulted. When pronounced だん as indicated in the manga, the dictionary suggests it typically is being used as a counter for parts of something, such as a story. When used for a meaning of “bullet” or “shot,” as would seem to be appropriate here, the dictionary suggests the common pronunciation is たま instead.

Spring of Drowned Yeti Riding Ox Carrying Eel and Crane	牛鶴鰻毛人溺泉	ニウホーマンマオレンニーチュアン	niuhōmanmaorennīchuan	The spring in which Pantyhose Taro was originally cursed, when he was bathed in it as a newborn. The initial kanji characters are for “ox,” “crane,” “eel,” and “hairy person.” I don't know why the last was used, unless it's a way of indicating “yeti” which isn't in the dictionary I used. In the next panel after the spring is first named, when the characters are reflecting on the name, different kanji characters which definitely mean “yeti” are used in the dialog balloon down around the level of Genma and Ryoga.
Spring of Drowned Young Boy	童子溺泉	トンツーニーチュアン	tontsūnīchuan	The spring in which Rakkyosai was cursed, which turns him into a very young boy.
stance of the collapsing brace	支柱落地勢	しちゅうらくちせい	shichū rakuchi sei	One of the moves of the umisen-ken. The kanji represent brace falling-to-the-ground military-strength.
strike of the spitting white snake	白蛇吐信掌	はくだとしんしょう	haku da to shin shō	One of the moves of the umisen-ken. The kanji represent albino-rat-snake spit truth palm.
super soba	剛力ソバ	ごうりきソバ	gōriki soba	“gōriki” refers to herculean strength.
Sweatshirt Shiro	ふんどし四郎	ふんどししろう	fundoshi shirō	Literally “Fundoshi Fourth-Born Son,” where fundoshi is traditional Japanese underwear for males. This was an alternate name Happosai proposed for Pantyhose Taro.
Tacchi		タッチイ	tatchī	This is the nickname by which Principal Kuno refers to his son, Tatewaki. On at least one occasion when the principal calls him this, it is accompanied by the kanji characters for “Tatewaki.”
Tatewaki	帯刀	たてわき	tatewaki	“tatewaki” means sword wearer.
Tatewaki	He is addressed as Kuno-senpai by both Akane and Ranma, although sarcastically in Ranma's case, as indicated by the use of katakana for the honorific. Nabiki calls him Kuno-chan, Kasumi says Kuno-kun, and Kodachi usually uses either onīsama or nīsan. His father addresses him as Tacchi, and the cheerleader Mariko Konjo called him Kuno-sama.

Tokyo Grandfather Point	江戸っ子じいさんのツボ	えどっこじいさんのツボ	edokko jīsan no tsubo	The pressure point to temporarily reverse the effect of the Full-Body Cat Tongue. Note that it is really named the Edokko Grandfather Point, where Edo is the former name for Tokyo, and Edokko (literally “child of Edo”) refers to a true native of Tokyo whose ancestors were from Tokyo.

Ucchan		ウっちゃんうっちゃん	utchan	The first version is Ranma's nickname for Ukyo. The second version is the name of Ukyo's restaurant.

ultimate demon god multiple strike	最大級鬼神来襲弾	さいだいきゅうきじんらいしゅうだん	saidaikyū kijin raishū dan	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken (see demon god multiple strike). The kanji represent maximum rank fierce-god attack bullet.
umi-sen ken	海千拳	うみせんけん	umisenken	The “thousand-sea fist,” a fighting style invented by Genma Saotome to commit burglary based on the approach of sneaking in through the back door of a house. Ranma used this style to fight Ryu Kumon, who had learned the opposing yama-sen ken. Part of the reason why Takahashi-sensei may have chosen these names is that 海千山千 (umisenyamasen) means sly old dog or old fox.
uncle		おじさまおじさん	ojisama ojisan	How the Tendo sisters address Genma. (Akane and Kasumi seem to use ojisama, while Nabiki uses ojisan.) Ranma also addresses Soun this way (ojisan).
Uni	雲丹子ちゃん	うにこちゃん	unikochan	The female half of a couple who came to the temple to make a wish for success together using one of the horse prayer tablets. The name means “sea urchin,” together with a typical female “ko” suffix.
Unryu Akari	雲竜あかり	うんりゅうあかり	unryū akari	“unryū” appears to be a sumo term. “akari” means light, gleam.
Unryu Akari	Addressed as Akari without an honorific by her grandfather. Ryoga addresses her as Akari-san initially, but as Akari-chan after her introductory arc. Akane calls her Akari-san, and Ranma calls her Akari-chan.
upperclassman / senior	先輩	せんぱい	senpai	Generally used as an honorific, most often when Ranma, Akane or someone else in their grade addresses Kuno Tatewaki. Ranma tends to use the term sarcastically.
violent dance of the demon god horde	鬼神群大乱舞	きじんぐんだいらんぶ	kijin gun dairan bu	One of the moves of the yamasen-ken. The kanji represent fierce-god swarm rebellion dance.
Water Pot of Liberation	開水壺	カイスイフウ	kaisuifū	A Musk dynasty artifact which is used to unlock Jusenkyo cursed people or animals who were previously locked in their cursed form. The name seems to translate as “Unlocking Water Pot.”
Watermelon Island	スイカ島	スイカじま	suikajima	An island where many watermelons grow, where Kuno lost his memory while training.
White Lily	白ユリ	しらユリ	shirayuri	The Japanese does in fact mean “white lily.” This is the nickname of Kodachi's rival, Asuka Saginomiya.
wife	奥さん	おくさん	okusan	Used, for example, in regard to Nodoka as Genma's wife.
Wishbringer	満願丸	まんがんまる	manganmaru	The name of a sword which Kuno pulled from a stone and from which he received three wishes.
wooden sword shredder	木刀ささら崩し	ぼくとうささらくずし	bokutō sasara kuzushi	A technique of the Kuno ryū by which the principal shredded Tatewaki's bokuto.
Xi Fa Xiang Gao	洗髪香膏	サイフアツヘンゴウ	saifuatsuhengō	A shiatsu technique that Shampoo used on Akane to make her forget Ranma. I think the kanji may mean something like “fragrant ointment shampoo.”
Yakusai village	薬菜村	やくさいむら	yakusai mura	The name of the village in China where Pink and Link live (old enemies of Shampoo). The kanji for Yakusai mean “medicine” and “vegetables.”
Yamada / Yamane	山田	やまだ	yamada	A neighboring family of the Tendo's, who own a dog named Bess. The name in Japanese is Yamada, but for some reason VIZ translated it as Yamane.
yama-sen ken	山千拳	やませんけん	yamasenken	The “thousand-mountain fist,” a fighting style invented by Genma Saotome to commit burglary based on the approach of breaking in through the front door of a house. Ryu Kumon had learned this style, and used it to fight Ranma, who won by learning the opposing umi-sen ken. Part of the reason why Takahashi-sensei may have chosen these names is that 海千山千 (umisenyamasen) means sly old dog or old fox.
Yamata no Orochi		ヤマタノオロチ	yamata no orochi	An eight-headed (or eight-tailed) serpent from Japanese mythology. Source of the water of life in Ryugenzawa.
Yohyo	与兵	よひょう	yohyō	The owner of the castle and the island in the Stomperella story. Addressed as Yohyō-sama by his butler. The name might mean something like “soldier-gift.”
Yoiko	良い子	よいこ	yoiko	This is the name Ranma used when pretending to be Ryoga's younger sister.
Yomogi valley	よもぎ谷	よもぎだに	yomogi dani	The valley of moxa rocks where Ranma went to train after Happosai inflicted the Ultimate Weakness Moxibustion on him.
Yotaro	与太郎	よたろう	yotarō	The boy who wouldn't go outside, and who was keeping Genma (in his panda form) as a pet (see Kumahachi). The boy's name is a Japanese word meaning a slow-witted fellow or a liar.
